The perfect English country house in acres of parkland. Built between 1776 and 1783 Basildon Park fell on hard times in the early part of the twentieth century. It was treasured and restored by Lord and Lady Iliffe in the 1950s and they filled their home with important pictures, furniture and textiles. The artist Graham Sutherland became a friend of the Iliffes and some of the original studies for his Coventry Cathedral tapestry "Christ in Glory" can be seen in the Sutherland Room. There are over 400 acres of parkland to explore with way marked trails. Overlooking the Thames Valley the eighteenth century park and woodland are currently being restored. There is a National Trust shop offering a wide range of gifts and a licensed restaurant open for lunch and afternoon tea. We welcome pre-booked group visits. Please telephone for more information. Guided tours are available out of normal opening hours. Please telephone for more information. Children's quiz and children's portions/meals are available in the restaurant. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/basildonpark Click here to see Basildon Park’s location
